What's so special about Uji Matcha? - Moicha Matcha London

What's so special about Uji Matcha?

Uji is the 'birthplace of matcha'. Its the most famous region for producing the finest quality matcha since the 16th century.

Thanks to its perfect climate and high quality soil, Uji is best known for smooth buttery taste and vibrant green matcha. This region is where matcha first created around 400 years ago - specially made for the elites; monks, samurai, and royal family.

Farmers in Uji have been growing and harvesting matcha, passing down traditions through family lineages for centuries. With only 60 farmers families left, the real Uji matcha is limited and mainly used for tea ceremony.

To cover matcha demand, there are few other tea regions in Japan also growing matcha. Although some of them also produce excellent high grades, most of them produce lower grades (mass quantity) and organic for export.

For now, all our matcha comes only from Uji 🌱⭐️
